What is a Type A Gas Appliance?

A Type A Gas Appliance can be defined by the Gas Safety Act as an appliance in which an acceptance scheme has been authorised.

Definitions (Cited from the Queensland Gas Association):

Appliance: a domestic or commercial Type A gas appliance as defined in Schedule 6 of the Petroleum and Gas (Production and Safety) Regulation 2004.

Certification Scheme: the Individual Gas Appliance Certification Scheme (as amended from time to time) operated by the QGA and against which the QGA assesses an Application.

Type A gas appliance: an appliance defined in Schedule 6 of the Petroleum and Gas (Production and Safety) Regulation 2004 Type A gas appliances which may be approved by QGA certifiers.

These domestic and commercial appliances must hold an approval badge from the Queensland Gas Association (QGA) or the Australian Gas Association (AGA) if they are not purchased brand new. Examples of type A gas appliances include:

  • Cookers
  • Gas tops
  • Ovens
  • Teppanyaki
  • Griddle
  • Salamander
  • Space heaters
  • Central heaters
  • Water heaters
  • Catering Equipment
  • Leisure Appliances
